Biscuits
(From Joy of Cooking)
Ingredients:

1 3/4 cups all-purpose or whole wheat flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 1/2 teaspoons double-acting baking powder

2 to 6 tablespoons chilled butter or shortening

2/3 to 3/4 cup milk
To make:

Cut butter into dry ingredients until the mixture is the consistency of
coarse corn meal.

Make a well in the center of these ingredients. Add milk all at once.

Briefly, stir until the dough is fairly free from the sides of the bowl.

Knead the dough on a lightly floured board, about 8-10 folds.

Roll out with a lightly floured rolling pin, and cut.

Place on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake in 450 degrees oven until done
-- 12-15 minutes.
Makes 2 dozen 1 1/2 inch biscuits (double for 16 people).
