Talking Quail
It was a sunny morning.  Misty and Marty were having breakfast.  Marty decided to go on a boatride.  Misty said, "Yes, I would like to go."  So they had a good time on their boat ride, especially the baby in Misty's belly.  Misty asked, "Can we have lunch on the side of the river"?  Yes, we can.  While they were having lunch, they saw an elk, coyote and a deer drinking water on the side of the river. Next Misty had a feeling in her stomach and had the baby on the side of the river.  She was looking around because she heard a call saying, "Baby baby".  It was a quail and then it flew off.  When Misty and Marty got home they thought of a name for the baby.  "I know, let's call her Talking Quail.  I love that name," said Misty.  So they both walked outside and they saw quails flying around their house.
Welcome to the California Region
It was a sunny morning.  All the animals gave me a warning that an earthquake was coming.  So I called all the deer, elk, rabbits, quails, coyotes, foxes, and bobcats.  The earthquake was over, and there were 20 redwood and sequoia trees knocked down near my wickiup.  When I came out I heard a baby bobcat crying, so I went over and it had a broken paw.  But its mommy left my wickiup so I kept it.  The tip of the Klamath Mountains were shining.  It was getting dark, so I went to bed.  I could smell the blackberries, they are delicious.  It was morning and I saw the Cascade Range, it has light green and dark green grass.  The Sierra Nevada have light green grass too.
Other areas of the California region are the Central Valley, Pacific Coast Ranges, Death Valley, and the Mojave Desert.  The rivers are the Owens River, Colorado River, Tuolume River.  The lakes are Clear Lake and Lake Havasu.  It was beinning to become winter, a very warm winter.  It is weird because our summers are cool.  The California Region is a very good place to live.

The Famous Wickiup
Have you ever lived in a wickiup that can hold one family and lots of relatives?  Want to know something cool?  A wickiup is made out of poles, vines, grass, and reeds.  It is partly in the ground and the roof is covered with bark.  A wickiup looks like an upside down basket.  There is food inside and stuff to cook.  You are probably asking what was outside.  Well there is a fire place, sand, and brush.  Do you know where men met and slept?  I do.  They dug a hole in the ground and they cover it with dirt.  That was their sweat lodge.  That is the famous wickiup.

Clothing
Have you ever tried making clothing out of animal skins?  Well the Pomo did.  Want to know what the women wore?  Well they wore skirts made out of deerskin, fibers, redwood and willow bark.  They also wore a cape made out of rabbit fur.  The women were barefoot.  They also had tattoos on their bodies.  In the winter, they wore moccasins.  Want to know what the men wore?  They wore a loincloth and moccasins in the winter too.  They also were barefoot and naked in the summer.  But they all wore earrings made out of bird bones and rods tied with feathers.  They also had beads.  Do you want to know what the children wore?  Well they wore hardly anything and were barefoot in the summer.  They wore moccasins in the winter.  They tattooed their bodies too.  This is how they got their clothing.  They killed animals with bows and arrows.  Now that you know how to make the clothing do you want to try?

Food
There was a family, a very good family.  It was a sunny morning and they got fish with their bows and arrows.  The dad got the fish.  The family went in the teepee and saw deer tracks,  It was not a good sign, but they did not care.  So they built a fire.  A storm came, and they fell asleep.  It was morning, and they saw a deer.  The dad hit it with a bow and arrow.  The family had a lot of meat.  The moon came out. All of a sudden, a rabbit came running out.  The family got it with a bow and arrow.  The family went back in the teepee and the family heard the quails calling.  The Pomo gathered berries, seeds, roots, grasses, bulbs, and acorns, too.  Do you want to know what they did to the acorns?  Well, they shelled the acorns, pounded the acorns into flour, and poured water over the meal.  They also put hot rocks in a basket and poured the meal over the hot rocks to make a pancake.  If you want this recipe, copy it out of here and enjoy.
