Squirrel Point Light
by: Kathleen

My lighthouse is Squirrel Point Light. My lighthouse is on the Kennebec River on Arrowsic Island. It was made in 1898. It is made out of wood. It is 25 feet tall. My light signal flashes red for three seconds with three seconds of darkness and it has a white sector. When my fog signal blasts, it blasts once every ten seconds.

My lighthouse is special because my Mom and my Auntie used to live in it. It was a dangerous place because a boy was walking and he fell in and he drowned. My Mom and my Auntie switched rooms over and over. My Grammy and Papa had their own office. It had a big chimney.

Now I’m going to tell you what it would feel like living in a lighthouse and what I would do to take care of one. My mother would have to teach me things instead of a teacher. I would keep watch. I would also polish the light. I would save the crews on ships. I would definitely scrape the ice off the windows. I would not have much food. It would be pretty dangerous. I would have to climb the stairs.
