What kind of materials can be found in the GVHS Library?
The GVHS library has 9,000 books, 40 magazine and 6 newspapers subscriptions and 700 videos plus access to the internet and file server on 11 computers.
To find what you need just use the library's electronic catalog by clicking the "Library Catalog" icon found on any school computer.

What if the GVHS Library doesn't have it?
Many databases, periodical and newspaper articles are available at Maine Infonet Electronic Databases (now named Marvel.)

The librarians will be happy to interlibrary loan (ILL) materials from other libraries.
If don't know what is available in other libraries try looking in one of these online catalogs:

Ursus - the online catalog of the University System, Maine State Library and Bangor Public Library
Maine Infonet -the statewide library catalog
Minerva-a consortium of online catalogs from around the state
When you find what you need, just give the information to one of the librarians to order for you
••••WARNING- an ILL can take a week or more to arrive in the mail. PLAN AHEAD!••••
In addition to the Infonet sites listed above and ILL, the Maine State Library: also provides the following services:
Research & Reference Services • Talking Books • Large Print • Ask a Librarian • Government Documents
Searching the Internet
Return to the GVHS Library Homepage for a selection of search engines to begin your search.

Or check out the Library's Teacher Pages for connections to sites chosen by your teachers and librarians to help you find information for classes and assignments

How to figure out if an internet site is any good
Just because you were able to find something on the internet, doesn't make it any good.
Check out our easy Web Evaluation Guide to help you decide what's good and what's not.
Last resort or anywhere along the way - ask for help.
The library is open from 7 AM to 3 PM each school day
