MISSION STATEMENT
FOR STUDENT SERVICES
GRADES 9-12
GEORGES VALLEY HIGH SCHOOLThe Student Services staff will pursue excellence in the delivery of comprehensive, and developmentally appropriate services for ALL students. These services will be accomplished through the implementation of:
- A comprehensive Alternative Education Program
- A comprehensive School-To-Work/Career Preparation Program
- A comprehensive Guidance Program.
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
- Each department within Student Services has individual and unique resources to offer our students and will develop programs which will allow our students full access to those resources.
- All students are entitled to a comprehensive career development program which will prepare them for eventual employment, whatever their choices might be.
- Graduates will have a career/educational plan based on the accumulated information within their Career Development Portfolios.
- Career exploration and development includes but is not limited to: interest and skill inventories, career exploration software with World-Wide-Web access, community-based learning experiences, and post-secondary educational exploration and assistance.
- The student's educational/career plan will be carried out as a team effort by members of The Student Services staff, student faculty advisors, parents, administrators, support staff, and community members.
- Career development activities are part of a continuum connected to, and building upon, activities at the elementary and middle schools.
- Students who are having difficulty completing graduation requirements will have access to Alternative Education Services.
- All students are entitled to assistance with their social, emotional, and cognitive growth and development. Students will meet with Student Services staff both individually and in small groups at various times, in keeping with the curriculums. This will be done with encouragement, respect, support, and expressions of caring.
