Cereal Box Design
The students started this lesson
by thinking about their favorite cereal or possibly the cereal they ate
for breakfast. We talked about what makes you eat the cereal, what attracts
you to that particular cereal. Is it for the prize inside, the sugar, nutritional
value or the characters on the box. We also discussed how art appears in
our lives, from the design on our cereal box to the shoes on our feet.
Art is everywhere!

Free Form Design
In this lesson we discussed free form shapes and looked at different art work from a variety of artists who work mostly in design using shapes and lines. The students took a small 6x9 piece of paper folded it three times and then drew and cut out free form shapes. The students then opened the folded paper and using 12 X18 paper and a pencil they traced out the free form shapes from the 6x9 paper. Once they completely filled the paper they used black marker to go over the pencil and color in the shapes.
