Guided Reading Stories
All children are involved in Guided Reading lessons.
The books use predictable language,
repetition of high-utility words, and feature illustrations that
support understanding of the text. This program enables us to work with
each child at their appropriate reading level.
Reading Stories on Starfall.com
The children have all enjoyed building independent reading skills using this interactive website. Decoding keys are emphasized as the children read a variety of short and long vowel words. We also have individual books and writing workbooks to enrich our reading program.
Daily Writing
The children choose their own topics each day
during Writing Time. They are
encouraged to write about something meaningful, to find words
on the Word Wall, and to sound out new words the best they can. Each day,
one child reads their work to the class from the Author's Chair.
Dot Addition
Our new math program, Investigations in Number, Data and Space, has been an exciting change this year. The children often work with partners, and share ideas and strategies with the class. We have worked on finding more than one answer to a problem, and showing how we solved the problem on paper. It has been gratifying to see the growth in the children's ability to communicate a variety of math concepts to each other.
Please feel free to contact me anytime with any
questions or concerns. I have seen wonderful growth and excitement about
learning and look forward to a delightful end to the school year.
