The Slinky

The Slinky was used for entertainment.  It was also adapted into a business and was used to pick pecans from trees. The invention of the slinky was mostly an accident. While James was working on a spring for a naval ship, he accidentally knocked the spring off of his desk and the spring “walked” over books and equipment.
The Slinky was originally made of the Swedish blue-black steel, but it was replaced by the shiny American kind. Also a crimp was added to the Slinky to ensure safety.  The slinky was a very popular toy. In the first 90 minutes of the Gimble Demonstration 400 Slinky toys were sold.
The slinky was in the movies Ace Ventura, When Nature Calls, Demolition Man, Other Peoples Money, and Hairspray. Betty made other slinky toys like, Slinky J.R, Slinky Pets, Crazy Eyes, and Neon Slinky. In Swedish Slinky means stealthy, sleek, and sinuous.
