The Chickadee Award
A Maine Children's Choice Picture Book Project
Posters made at LLS and CCS

2007-2008

The Chickadee Award, named after Maine's state bird, is a program for children in kindergarten through fourth grade. This year, ten books published in 2006 were read to or by our students, who voted on their favorite during the last week of March.

Many of the Chickadee books were read during library classes throughout the year. During February and March, some of our third and fourth graders spent their lunch time/recess making campaign posters or ads for the books. The library was very busy with students discussing books, planning their posters, and scripting their ads! One group even wrote a play. The last week of March, the posters were displayed in the schools, the LLS video of ads was shown, and all grades voted for their favorite book.
