Children Exercising Simultaneously
On Wednesday, May 4th, students from both Lura Libby and Cushing Community schools united on the grounds of Lura Libby School to participate in this year's Project ACES.
It was a bright, sunny morning and our activities began at 8:30 a.m. The entire group of nearly 300 students, staff, and parents stretched on the kickball field. Mrs. Snow, our Physical Education teacher, lead us from the pitcher's mound.
From here, we were assigned to one of three "fitness circuits" to complete. Kindergarten and 1st graders followed the "purple trail" where they did skipping, jumping, singing, balancing and more. The 2nd grader's trail was made up of blue signs. They were busy jumping make-believe jumpropes, doing cardiovascular routines, and attempting team challenges. Finally, the 3rd and 4th grade students followed the "orange trail." This circuit had eight different stations. At one stop, the classroom teacher sang "I'm a little teapot" while their students jogged in place. They also did jumping jacks, ski jumps, team challenges, a partner stunt and higher level fitness activities.
To conclude our activities, our principal, Mrs. Chamberlin, treated us all to a healthy cheese stick snack.
The project was enjoyed by both students and staff! It was a wonderful way to celebrate National Physical Fitness and Sports month!
