We are currently updating our curriculum to match the Maine Learning Results.   A new literacy curriculum was developed last year.   The Social Studies Curriculum is currently being worked on.  The following is not an updated Social Studies curriculum. We hope to get the final Social Studies draft in September. The following is an overview of our district curriculum that pertained to this project.

Social Studies

Environment:

1. Illustrate general geographical similarities and differences of various areas.
2. Demonstrate the interrelationship of man and his habitat.
 

Communication

1. Construct letters and notes. (Friendly letters, thank you notes). Construct complete sentences and simple stories.
 

Literacy

Research/Library/Technology Skills

1. Understanding that the media center/library has materials other than books.
2. Brainstorming with the class questions to research on the topic.
3. Interacting with the computer correctly in loading and running software.
4. Using the computer and appropriate software to do rough draft and print out.
5. Keyboarding with correct finger positioning.
6. Understanding of student role in keeping materials in order.
7. Materials in the media center have a specific arrangement.

Reading Fluency

1. Recognition and use of rereading as an aid to developing fluency.
 

Writing Process

1. Following the steps of the writing process.
2. Writing letters.
3. Writing reports.
4. Writing simple sentence.
5, Writing paragraphs.
6. Proper capitalization.
7. Proper use of commas.

Decoding /Word Attack/Strategies

1. Continue development of decoding ability, including use of complex letter/sound correspondences, syntactic and semantic cues, word roots, and affixes.

Oral Communication

1. Class reporting: Presenting orally information from research.
2. Explaining various forms of information( charts, graphs, maps, etc).
3. Group Discussion: Taking turns responding appropriately, contributing to discussion.
