Each quarter extra credit options are available to any and all students who
wish to go the extra mile for a higher grade.
If you have other ideas that are not listed below please share your ideas
with me. I would love to hear about them and discuss other options for you.
Due
Dates: On or before the day
grades close. Dates depend on quarter closures and when grades disks are due.
Point
Value: Maximum of 25 points.
Many students have exceeded and gone beyond 25 points based on their effort
and creativity.
Presentations:
I will allow you to choose whether or not you want to present your extra credit
to your class.
Expectations:
The main thing I am looking for is time, effort and creativity put into your
extra credit. The more time you spend the higher point value your work
will be worth.
Creative/Artistic
Research
the food or cuisine from a book you are reading. The food may be specifically
mentioned in your book or you may research the setting (time period) for cooking
techniques or common foods. Make a dish using a recipe and provide a five-minute
class presentation and taste test. To do this option well, I need a copy of
the recipe and be convinced that you know about the cuisine and cooking techniques
from the time period you researched.
Create
a Power Point slide show related to a book you are reading or a topic you
are interested in. To do this option well, well-organized information
(words) and graphic (sounds, pictures, colors, etc) organization is required.
The point is to have the graphics enhance your information and topic, not take
away from it.
Make
a collage related your book, yourself, or a character from a book,
etc. Good collages are completely full of pictures, very little,
to no paper should be seen as backgrounds. I have an example in the
classroom if you would like to see it.
Make
a shoe box scene book report - be neat and creative.
Illustrate
(draw) the setting of a book you are reading. Be detailed and creative
using visual memory
Creative/Linguistic
(Writing
Write
a story of your own that shows character development, setting, theme, plot
and correct punctuation. Three page minimum, no maximum.
Write
and send a post card to yourself from the perspective of a character in
a book you are reading.
One side needs to obviously be the correspondence in letter format and
the other, a drawn picture related to the book.
Change
the ending of a book you are reading - include a copy of the book's ending
as well.
Write
a play that shows character development,
setting, theme, plot, correct punctuation, etc.
Do a
visual report on a book you are reading and/or a topic you are interested
in - provide information on three chosen topics.
Write
a report on an animal or other topic. Choose three parts of your topic
to research and provide a paragraph for each chosen part. Paper must follow
district writing standards to the best of your ability. Example: Topic:Chickens
3Parts: habitat, diet, kinds of chickens.
Author
Review Report: listen to an author interview tape and/or go to www.scholastic.com
to gain information on an author or your choice. Provide information in
either written form or provide an oral class presentation on your findings.
