Nature Trail Index

The 6th graders and the Alternative Education students at the St. George school are working on re-building a Nature trail behind our school. In October 04 we went to Tanglewood from the Youth Forestry Camp.  what I learned was pacing . We would count 100 steps then stop. Then we learned how to use a compass navigation. When using a compass you want to get it in the dog house. ''Which was to try and get it the white arrow."

When we were there we did games such as Mr. Murphy, Mr. Murphy was about not to show your teeth. Also the Animal game, everyone had a piece of paper that had an animal name on it, and you would have to try and find the other match to your piece of paper, by making the animal sound. Each one Teach one, every body would have a spot in the woods and a person would go find a tree and they would talk about that certain tree to different groups of people. the band aid game, and life saver game, as in when you bite a life saver in the dark it sparks.  We roasted marshmallows, and we would eat 3 times a day.
What I learned was pacing, we would count 100 steps then stop. Then we learned how to use a compass navigation. We would try and get the red arrow to get in the dog house. (Which was try in get it in the white arrow).

Two friends on the first day at Tanglewood eating lunch or just about done with lunch.

Our adviser was Emily.  Then we had to say our names and then try to get to know each other. After we were going to a tour around the camp site. But first we did pacing. Trust me, the camp was BIG! After we got settled in, we had dinner. The next day we went in the woods and did some measuring. Like measuring the trees, and to see how wide the trees were. We had free time at 4:30 and at 6:30 we had dinner. On the last day we had a talent show, we decided to sing a
"GIRL SCOUT" song called The Littlest Worm. We did GREAT.
We had a great time. The best part is we had a bathroom in our cabin, a bathtub and last but not least, A PHONE. But the worst, we didn't get to use it. A teacher we had also on our tours was Mrs.Hoyt Nguyen. I had a lot of fun. The reason why we went to Tanglewood is because we were learning about trees, and this camp is a camp where we learn all about tre's.

Nature Trail

On the Nature trail we went and looked at the marsh. When we were there we got to write poems or write about it. For example when we were there at that point the marsh was icy. But not icy like you can skate on it.  Icy as in thin ice ! wrote a poem about the marsh and I did a good job. I couldn't stand being out there because it was super cold. The reason why we were at the marsh is because we were talking about plants.  The nature trail that time was really cold. But in the spring it will get warmer, and that will be better. When it becomes Summer, the nature trail will be even more warmer than it already is. When winter comes and it snows it looks really pretty.  It looks like you are in a winter wonderland. The nature trail is a quiet and beautiful place to walk. The nature trail is a place where you can have privacy and space where you can write, read, look at birds, and the water. The nature trail was a lot of fun!
