The sixth graders and Alternative Education students are to make a New Outdoor
Learning Center in the back of the St. George School. The purpose of the
St. George Outdoor Learning Center is to teach students and the St. George
Community about nature and their surroundings. Since we have never constructed an outdoor learning center before we needed to learn how to make a nature trail from the old nature trail that is out behind our school. We went to Tanglewood Youth Forestry Camp to learn how to make a new nature trail. There we learned how to measure distances in the forest, pacing, how to use a soil auger and a compass. The biggest part of Tanglewood was making our land management plan; a plan on where to put benches, the trail, and signs. When we weren't studying forestry we did other really fun stuff. For example, rec time included playing basketball, and soccer. We had a talent show and ate s'mores too. |
