St. George School Outdoor Learning Center

Students at the St. George School plan to clean up the old nature trail in the back of the school and create a new trail. The 6th grade is very involved. We made a tree guide power point and wrote persuasive papers on a spot we would like to include in the Outdoor Learning Center.
We also went to Tanglewood in October, to learn even more about trees and making trails in the woods. During our two nights and three days spent at the youth forestry camp we learned at lot and also had tons of fun! We had a blast! We learned all about different types of trees and forests, such as an understory(a layer of small trees under the lager ones.), and an evergreen tree(trees that don't lose there leaves in the winter. We also learned pacing, compass use and navigation. We learned all about what we will be doing in the future, land management and creating an Outdoor Learning Center. During the evenings we were very entertained. On the first night we had a night walk which was a little scary at first. On the last night we had a talent show and campfire.

The six graders and Alt. Ed. playing a game at Tanglewood.
This is the cabin I stayed in! It was called "The Nest".
These 2 friends were really bored and it was very hot that day.

Our assignment was to write a persuasive essay on a spot we would like to include in the new nature trail behind the school. I wrote about a huge boulder at the beginning of the old nature trail.

This boulder sits at the beginning of the old trail. I would like to include it in the new nature trail.

We also made powerpoints on a tree we studied. I studied the tamarack tree. You never know how interesting a tree can be!
