Nature Trail Index

The St. George School's sixth graders have been working on building a new nature trail on the back of our school's property. Since we didn't know how to build a nature trail we decided to go to the Youth Forestry Camp at Tanglewood.

Tanglewood is a 4-H camp in Lincolnville, Maine. At Tanglewood we all learned about nature and how to use navigational tools such as a compass, soil auger and pacing to help us with building a nature trail. We stayed at Tanglewood for two nights and three days we all got got separated into groups and slept in cozy cabins. The cabin that I stayed in was called Dogtrot. At night some of the girls from Dogtrot went and played some pranks on the other cabins. It was very fun and a good experience. Each day we woke up and separated into our groups and we played some games, then learned about different kinds of trees like the Hardwood and the Softwood..

All of the sixth grade and Alt-Ed trying to get on the bus!! Two friends taking their first luch break. Some of the girls in their cabin "The Nest."

One of our projects was to go and take a picture of a spot that could be part of the nature trail. We wrote a persuasive paper on why we wanted that area to be part of our nature trail. Below is the picture of the location where I chose because it has an overlook of the water and it would be a great area for benches and relaxation.
