MONTHLY
READING LOGS
-
Purpose
of Reading Logs: Research shows that the more reading done, the more
fluent a reading becomes as a result. My hope is that students will develop
a liking to reading, not only in their spare time, but find that they want
to read as part of their daily routine.
Reading
Log Expectations
-
Each month
students are responsible for reading a total of 400 minutes from either
books, magazines, newspapers, comic strips and/or other resources.
Each day or whenever reading occurs record the minutes read and the abbreviated
resource(s) in each box.
- Abbreviating
is encouraged on the calendar, though please provide a key to indicate abbreviation
meanings. Example: "Village Soup Times" = VST
-
Please
add minutes BEFORE turning in the reading log. KEEP
ALL READING LOGS IN A SAFE PLACE !! DO NOT THROW READING LOGS AWAY! We
will be graphing monthly totals or our collected data as an added math
assignment in June 2005.
-
DUE
DATES: Reading logs are ALWAYS due on the first weekday of the new
month. For example, if Sunday is the 1st of the month, then the
reading log is due Monday the 2nd.
-
PARENTS:
Please sign each reading log. I ask for this for three reasons:
parental awareness, educational involvement and you may learn what your
child enjoys reading. If you care to take it to a higher level, ask
your child about what they are reading. Talk about the subjects, settings
of a book, characters, what they have learned from the newspaper article
or geographic location of newspaper articles.
